Travels to the East - PART I - Kuala Lumpur
Simon and I fell in love with the East a good 14 years ago when we Honeymooned to Bali. It was at that moment that we realized we would have to make a plan to get back there as often as humanly (and financially) possible :-) After Thailand, we thought a great option would be to try out Malaysia. Not knowing much about it, we bought some books and scoured the internet. Trying to find out as much as possible about a country (I realized I knew very little about) We decided on 3 major cities - Kuala Lumpur, Penang and finally Langkawi. And then at the end we decided to throw in a day trip to Thailand and a week in Singapore.
Our first leg of the journey took us to Kuala Lumpur (or KL as all the locals call it) We were blown away by the intensity of the city, the bustle, the overwhelming architecture and sheer vastness of the city. After many many city walks, Mall after mall of window shopping - we took to the monorail system. Which I have to say is unbelievably efficient. We caught trains, buses, you name it..we caught it. For a city that we knew nothing about, they make it amazingly easy to get anywhere you want to get.
Our visit to KL took us to the famous Batu Caves, 272 steps takes you to the top. Where you can marvel at the enormity of the statues and vast caves within. It really was worth the trek up to the top.
We found alot of family things to do while we were in KL, waterparks, aquariums, trips to the top of the Towers, new years Eve Fireworks at the Petronas Towers, movies, window shopping in the mall, great food everywhere we went. It truly was an incredible experience.
There were many moments I left my camera in the hotel room on purpose so that I could enjoy the day without the pressure of having to document everything. None the less, I did manage to snap up a couple of key moments along the way.
