Josh the Appaloosa

Meet Josh the Appaloosa.  He lives in beautiful Mauritius and belongs to Alexandra.  From the first moment I laid eyes on him I was in awe.  In person(horse) he is even more beautiful and casts your mind back to a time where red indians would ride these beautiful horses across the plains in central America.  But for now, Josh lives on a little rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean..namely...Mauritius.  

I had a very clear idea of the look and feel for the shoot with just a simple amount of elements, one dusky cloudy evening, a horse, a flash and a camera.  We were a little apprehensive as to whether or not to have Josh bridled and reigned or unbridled.  He's a smart fellow and could work out pretty quickly once we unbridled him that he was "free" to gallop across the grounds in a new found frolicking freedom.  It was heart stopping from the sheer perspective of witnessing an unbridled, unrestrained wild creature taking off at full speed.  Thankfully with the help of the highly skilled instructors and owner of the riding school and with the help of Alexandra we were able to calm him and halter him.  And the shoot continued.  (I may have aged a good couple of years witnessing the bolting stallion..but it was both a beautiful and exhilarating  experience.  And a huge thanks to Josh for being so beautiful and a humongous thanks to Alexandra for your calmness and patience.
